Island Park LIRR – Parking Lot Rehabilitation Project Update
June 25, 2026The Village is pleased to announce that the long-awaited Island Park Station Parking Lot Rehabilitation Project is moving forward after many years of planning and coordination. Construction is scheduled to begin next week with the start of Phase 1.
We recognize that construction will temporarily impact parking and daily commutes, and we understand this may be an inconvenience for residents and commuters. This project is a significant investment in improving the safety, condition, and long-term functionality of the station parking lot. The work has been carefully phased to keep as much of the parking lot open and accessible as possible throughout construction.
Later this week, project signage will be installed, and notification flyers will be placed on vehicles to inform commuters about the upcoming work.
During construction, the active work area will be secured with barricades and construction fencing. All parking areas outside the active construction zone will remain open and available for use.
Current Project Schedule (Estimated):
- Phase 1: Approximately 33 days
- Phase 2: Approximately 35 days
- Phase 3: Approximately 71 days
- Phase 4: Approximately 49 days
- Phase 5: Approximately 52 days
Please note that these timelines are estimates and may be adjusted due to weather, site conditions, or other construction-related factors. At this time, the contractor is working toward completing the entire rehabilitation project by the end of December.
A project phasing map has been provided to help residents and commuters identify which sections of the parking lot will be affected during each phase.
The Village is committed to providing regular updates throughout the project and will share any changes to the schedule as they occur. We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as these long-overdue improvements are completed. While there will be temporary inconveniences during construction, the finished project will provide a safer, more durable, and improved parking facility for the community for years to come.
